Multiple teams came calling for Maurice Hampton Jr. during the first two rounds of the MLB Draft, and the highest offer the Memphis University School outfielder received was a signing bonus of $1.8 million, his dad said.

Brad Warmath.jpeg

If Brad Warmath's doctor had it her way, Covington's baseball coach would have spent Tuesday in surgery to reverse the colostomy that saved his life.

But Warmath already had plans that he wouldn't miss for the world.

James Wiseman Stayed.jpg

"From Day 1, James could have left. He could have gone to any prep school he wanted to. He decided to stay here with me, man," Memphis East coach Jevonte Holmes said after a 46-42 Class AAA state semifinal win.

Bill Norton OMari.jpeg

The score of this year's rivalry game between Briarcrest and Christian Brothers basketball looked like it belonged in a football game, which was fitting because it featured Bill Norton and Omari Thomas, two of the best high school linemen in the state.

Jordan Wilmore.jpeg

Whitehaven senior Jordan Wilmore is believed to be the tallest high school basketball player in the state since Mike Carpenter, a 1983 Farragut graduate who was 7-2 and played at Minnesota and Arkansas.

Kyle Ginn missed most of the season with an ACL tear. In his only at-bat of the state tournament, he blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning that secured a 11-1 run-rule victory

This year's priorities for the White Sox have been getting familiar with Kopech and ensuring he gets a full season's worth of innings under his belt, which is something he hasn't done in nearly three years.

Kirby Rats.jpeg

The Kirby High School football team was forced to deal with rodents and relocation in recent weeks, and the taunts they’re hearing from opposing fans might not be the smartest idea.

Little by little, hill sprints and early morning weight room sessions turned a husky fourth-grader into a 6-foot-2, 290 pound defensive-lineman with his pick of 33 college scholarship offers, including Oregon, Florida and Ole Miss.

Eric gray T.jpg

He is the only player to win three consecutive Mr. Football awards. He won the Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year award twice. And he led Lausanne to state titles in 2016 and 2017.

Morris started playing football in the eighth grade and developed into one of the marquee offensive line talents in the nation. He is committed to play in the Under Armour All-American game and has more than 40 scholarship offers.

Xavier Hill .jpg

Xavier Hill was riding through the woods on a golf cart. He was heading down a trail near one of the most remote and picturesque lakehouses in the South. He had one thought dominating his mind: Don't crash. Why was his focus so intense? He was driving Alabama football coach Nick Saban.

The Bouwer brothers were unsure what to expect living in Fayette County. In South Africa, they spent time living in and around Johannesburg, so they were used to more of an urban experience. Their previous school was nearly twice as big as Fayette-Ware with around 1,700 students. And they stick out because of their accents

ALIOU BAH'.jpg

When Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt came to Memphis three weeks ago to see the Whitehaven linebacker trio of Bryson Eason, Martavius French and Tamarion McDonald, another player caught his eye.

Aliou Bah, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound sophomore, is Whitehaven's starting left tackle.

Kennedy Chandler Chef.jpg

As a freshman, Chandler emerged as the sixth man on a talented Saints team that lost by one point in last year's Division II-AA semifinals to Baylor. Now, as a sophomore, the 6-foot Chandler is the starting point guard at Briarcrest and is poised for a breakout season. He already holds scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Tulane, and UT Martin.

JABARI SMALL.jpg

His mother, Trinette, is from the area and still has family there. His father, Eddie, held the school record for receiving yards in a game with 210 until A.J. Brown broke it in 2017. He has a trio of SEC receivers in his family with his father, and uncles O.J. and Tony, who played at Florida and Georgia, respectively.
